FOOTBALL IN A CHAIR
IT’S HARDER THAN IT LOOKS
This is a wee section about me and my Powerchair Football journey. So, when I was a wee guy I didn’t think I could ever play football due to my condition which was SHIT as I loved all things football. In 2018 I came across the sport. I got that excited I nearly fell out of my chair. I can remember it vaguely, the first training session I had was with a team in Glasgow called Glasgow Gladiators PFC, I didn’t have a clue how the training sessions worked or how to control the sports chair. A coach once told me it was based on the 3 Bs that being Bumper, Ball and Brain, when I first heard this, I was like SHIT as my brain is delayed due to having CP.
However, my condition doesn’t stop me. Fast-forward a few years in my career through hard work and determination I found the team FC UNITED PFC, who is in association with the charity UNITED TO PREVENT SUICIDE. This club have a very powerful message TALK as having a disability can be mentally challenging and affect a lot of disabled people in different ways. Anyway, not to get do deep into it with FC UNITED I have travelled and played in European competitions, Geneva Switzerland springs to mind, that was the most expensive McDonalds I have ever had HAHA. It was great to see the level of competition in Europe.
Last season I won the championship and league cup, which was the first win and trophies of my football career, which was a real highlight and privilege to be a part of. Since joining Powerchair football I have been given opportunities I couldn’t dream off. I have recently been signed for the English league in Hull Yorkshire, which is a dream come true for me as England league is harder and more fast paced than the Scottish league, which gives me the opportunities to bring these skills from England and bring them back to Scotland.
